GOOD WRITING SKILLS I

Good writing skills I

I would like to begin my series on developing good writing skills this week by sharing some reasons why I believe it’s important to write well.

On a personal level, writing well will help you to communicate better as that is the purpose of writing. Misunderstanding occurs at many levels because people are unable to write down what they really feel and think… And it may cost you your job!

Imagine writing that your boss would like to have lunch with your colleagues when what he really said was that he wanted them around during lunch for a meeting. Your colleagues would begin to doubt your credibility and unknowingly, your image is affected by your writing. This is another reason why good writing skills are highly desirable.

A last reason is that at one point or the other, you will eventually write something – a letter, report, email etc and what you produce will make an impact on the reader. The person may be impressed and have a high estimation of you (and promote you!)
After all, it is a good written Resume or CV, without grammatical and vocabulary errors, which would open the door for your dream job in the first place.

The good thing is that, like any skill, writing can be developed. One key way is by reading widely. I will share more on the art of writing well in the subsequent weeks.

Hope you learnt something this week. We’re back next week. Like us on Facebook @ Charismata Editorial Services or reach us at charismataediting@gmail.com .
