Being or Been II?

In our last lesson, we established certain features that distinguish being from been.  Today we will basically deal with questions and answers. Try your hands on the following sentences by filling in the spaces with either being or been. Afterwards, crosscheck with the answers our editors provided.

1. For the time b……., I believe we should hold on.
2. Having b……. excused by his boss, he proceeded to open the door.
3. B……. the first child is no easy task.
4. It is such an honour to have b…….. called upon today.
5. Has she b…….. here lately?
6. Aren’t we b……… selfish by keeping all the money?
7. They have never b…….. fair to us and neither are they b…… fair to us now.

              ANSWERS
1. For the time BEING, I believe we should hold on (because ‘being’ here is a verbal)
2. Having BEEN excused by the boss, he proceeded to open the door (because ‘been’ goes with have)
3. BEING the first child is no easy task. (because ‘being’ here is a gerund)
4. It is such an honour to have BEEN called upon today (because ‘been’ goes with have)
5. Has she BEEN here lately? (because ‘been’ goes with have or has)
6. Aren’t we BEING selfish by keeping all the money? (because ‘being’ goes with are)
7. They have never BEEN fair to us and neither are they BEING fair to us now. ( because ‘been’ goes with have and ‘being’ goes with are)
